Julia Morales

Julia Morales, a two-time Emmy Award-winning sports reporter and anchor, has cultivated a decade-long career covering the Houston Astros, solidifying her pioneering role in sports broadcasting. After earning her degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Texas at Austin, Morales began her television career at KTEN-TV in Denison, Texas. She then moved to KYTX CBS 19 in Tyler, Texas, serving as a weekend sports anchor and reporter. Morales further honed her skills at Time Warner Cable News, formerly YNN, in Austin, where she provided extensive coverage of high-profile sporting events including the Super Bowl, NBA Finals, World Series, and College Baseball World Series.

A significant career milestone occurred on May 13, 2024, when Morales made history alongside Jenny Cavnar as the first two women to simultaneously serve as play-by-play television announcers for a Major League Baseball game. This groundbreaking broadcast featured the Houston Astros versus the Oakland Athletics, marking a pivotal moment for women in sports media. Her impact has been recognized by the industry, receiving the Woman of Inspiration award from the Houston chapter of WISE for her contributions to the field. Beyond her on-air presence, Morales is deeply committed to community engagement.

She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Houston Pets Alive!, dedicating her time to animal welfare initiatives. Additionally, she shares her expertise with aspiring journalists, regularly speaking to journalism students to mentor the next generation of broadcasters.
