Julius Deion Randle, born on November 29, 1994, in Dallas, Texas, embarked on his basketball journey at Prestonwood Christian Academy. He quickly established himself as one of the top high school players in the nation, with Rivals.com ranking him as the No. 1 power forward and No. 2 overall player in the class of 2013. During his senior year in 2012–13, Randle averaged 32.5 points and 22.5 rebounds per game, leading his team to a state title despite battling a fractured foot. His impressive high school career culminated in him being named a McDonald’s All-American in 2013.
Randle continued his basketball career at the University of Kentucky, where he played one season of college basketball. In the 2013–14 season, he was a key player for the Kentucky Wildcats, helping them reach the National Championship game. He recorded 24 double-doubles, the second most in school history and the most by a freshman. Averaging 15.0 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, he earned Third-team All-American honors from the Associated Press and the National Association of Basketball Coaches, as well as First-team All-SEC and SEC Rookie of the Year.
In 2014, Randle declared for the NBA draft and was selected seventh overall by the Los Angeles Lakers. His rookie season was cut short due to a broken right tibia, but he returned strongly in the 2015–16 season, playing in 81 games and recording his first career triple-double. After four seasons with the Lakers (2014-2018) and a year with the New Orleans Pelicans (2018-2019), Randle joined the New York Knicks in 2019. It was with the Knicks that he achieved significant milestones, including being named an NBA All-Star three times (2021, 2023, 2024), earning the NBA Most Improved Player Award in 2021, and being selected to the All-NBA Second Team (2021) and All-NBA Third Team (2023). In 2024, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he continues to be a prominent player.
