Former footballer turned manager Jupp Heynckes is known for his career as a striker with Borussia Monchengladbach as well as managing Bayern Munich.
Heynckes started out playing amateur football near his hometown, before signing with Borussia Monchengladbach. He rapidly became known as a prolific goalscorer, leading his team to victory numerous times and helping them become the first ever Bundesliga team to reach the UEFA Europa Cup finals in 1973. They continued to perform well throughout his time there, taking the Bundesliga title twice before his retirement in 1978. Heynckes made numerous appearances for the West Germany side too, before turning his attention to coaching and managing. He became an assistant with his beloved Gladbach, training and coaching there before moving to Bayern Munich which has defined much of his management career. Brief stints in Spain, including at Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, followed by his return to the Bundesliga meant that Heynckes built up a strong reputation as a tactical and efficient manager. He was awarded the FIFA World Coach of the Year title in 2013 for his impressive performances, and in 2017 made a brief return to management before his official retirement in 2018.
With years of experience on the pitch and on the sidelines under his belt, Heynckes is known as one of the best in the world. His name will go down in history both as a player and a manager, who brought success to every team he joined.
