A pioneer in his field, award-winning artist Justin Bua is world-renowned for his best-selling collection of fine art prints. He is most famous for his lyrical narrative paintings of DJs, musicians and other characters that define the urban landscape, and “The DJ” is one of the most popular prints ever made. Also a successful speaker, author and entrepreneur, trailblazer Bua was the first artist to launch an online art school, ArtistWorks.
Hailing from the Upper West Side of New York City, Bua was fascinated by city street life growing up between East Flatbrush and Manhattan. Whilst attending the prestigious Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Performing Arts he began to perform across the globe with breakdancing crews and began creating graffiti before studying at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
His career began in commercial art, and Bua designed for advertising campaigns, CD Covers and skateboards. He was also involved with the look and feel of MTV’s Lyricist Lounge Show title sequence, several video games including NBA Street and NFL Street for EA Sports and the award-winning ‘Tainted’ music video for Slum village.
Now world-renowned for his distinctive figurative style which blends his background in New York City, graffiti and his classical art training, his paintings have featured both the rich and famous (such as Muhammad Ali and Snoop Dogg) and everyday people from his memories, including the guitar player and DJ from his best known work. He continues to exhibit his work internationally and throughout the United States including at the Pop International Gallery, New York. Away from the art world, Bua is a long-time health-advocate and vegan who recently created his own raw organic chocolate bar named The BUA Bar.
