Justin Schoenefeld was born on August 13, 1998, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. He developed into a world-class aerial skier, joining the U.S. aerials roster after securing three NorAm wins in 2018 and officially becoming part of the team in 2019. Throughout his career, Schoenefeld has accumulated significant achievements, including four World Cup podium finishes. His ascent culminated in a gold medal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing as part of the aerials team event.
His competitive journey started with his Nor-Am Cup debut in Park City, Utah, in December 2014, where he placed 12th and 10th. By the 2015–16 season, Schoenefeld consistently placed in the top ten of the Nor-Am Cup circuit, including his first victory in Lake Placid. In the 2017–18 season, he continued his success by winning the Aerials discipline standings in the Nor-Am Cup with three victories. He made his World Cup debut in January 2019 in Lake Placid, achieving an initial 17th place and subsequently securing two top-ten finishes that season.
Schoenefeld achieved his first World Cup victory in Minsk in the 2019–20 season, following strong performances at Deer Valley Resort and Moscow. Beyond skiing, Schoenefeld maintains a range of interests, including daily bread baking, flying planes, and playing guitar. He has earned his private pilot’s license and completed his instrument training, actively working towards his commercial rating. He studies at Utah Valley University and is associated with the Elite Aerial Development Program.
