Justin Williams is a prominent Belizean-American cyclist and the rider-manager of the UCI Continental team L39ION of Los Angeles. His cycling journey began as a teenager, where he quickly made a name for himself by winning multiple amateur US National Championships in track, road, and criterium events. Williams is not only a talented athlete but also a passionate advocate for diversity in cycling, having founded a team aimed at mentoring young African American and Hispanic riders, thereby increasing representation in the sport.
Growing up in South-Central Los Angeles, Williams was inspired by his father, an amateur bike racer, to pursue cycling. After overcoming early challenges, including a brief stint with the US National Team, he joined Rock Racing in 2007, where he honed his skills and gained valuable experience. His career took off when he transitioned to the Trek-Livestrong development team, achieving notable success in European races, including a key role in the Paris–Roubaix Espoirs race.
In 2019, Williams founded L39ION of Los Angeles, a team that celebrates his roots and aims to create a more inclusive cycling community. Under his leadership, the team has attracted sponsorship from major brands and has become a platform for aspiring cyclists from underrepresented backgrounds. Williams’s entrepreneurial spirit has allowed him to leverage his cycling success into a thriving business model, blending sport with community engagement.
Williams’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in cycling has made him a trailblazer in the sport. He continues to inspire the next generation of cyclists, proving that with determination and support, barriers can be broken, and opportunities can be created for all. His journey reflects not only personal achievement but also a broader movement towards making cycling accessible and welcoming for everyone.
