Kai Lightner is an exceptional athlete and professional competitive sport climber from Fayetteville, North Carolina. He has dedicated his life to climbing and promoting diversity in the sport, especially for people of color.

Kai’s journey with rock climbing began at an early age, and he soon discovered his passion for the sport. He has won numerous national and international titles and has set many records, becoming the first person of color to win the US Youth National Championships in 2015. Since then, he has continued to break barriers, including being the first American to win a Youth World Championship in lead climbing.

Kai’s advocacy for diversity in climbing began as a result of his experiences as a young climber. He noticed a lack of inclusivity and representation of people of color in the sport, and he decided to use his platform to bring attention to the issue. He has worked with numerous organizations, including the USA Climbing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, to promote inclusion and encourage more diversity in the sport.

Despite his success, Kai remains humble and committed to improving as a climber and advocate. He is known for his dedication to training and his positive attitude both on and off the wall. His determination and perseverance have made him a role model for aspiring climbers and young athletes everywhere.

In addition to his climbing accomplishments, Kai is a committed student and ambassador for education. He attends university full-time while juggling his demanding competition schedule. He also serves as a mentor to young climbers through his Kai Lightner Foundation, which provides access to the sport for underprivileged children.
