Kaitlyn Lawes solidified her status as an elite curler by securing a gold medal at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, where her team, representing Canada, achieved an unprecedented undefeated run throughout the tournament. This historic win marked them as the first women’s team to go undefeated at the Olympics. Prior to this, Lawes established her prowess early in her career, earning two Canadian Junior Champion titles in 2008 and 2009, alongside consecutive World Junior Championship medalsbronze in 2008 and silver in 2009. Her career saw significant advancement when she joined Jennifer Jones’s team as a third in 2011, leading to immediate success including a Players’ Championship victory in 2011 and consecutive Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts titles in 2012 and 2013, followed by winning the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials in 2013, the Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Women’s Classic (2013), and the Colonial Square Ladies Classic (2013).
Lawes continued to compete at an elite level, adding the Canada Cup (2018) and the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard (2020) to her growing list of accolades. Since the 2022-23 season, she has been leading her own formidable squad, Team Lawes, and continues to demonstrate her leadership and skill on the ice. Most recently, she secured another provincial title with the 2024 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts, reaffirming her sustained impact and excellence in the sport.
