Kamiel Gabriel

Dr. Kamiel S. Gabriel holds a Bachelor of Science (honors) and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alexandria, Egypt. He further obtained a Ph.D. degree from the University of Manitoba, Canada. His academic foundation is complemented by a diploma in Space Science from the International Space University (Strasbourg, France) and an M.B.A. from the International Business Centre at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Gabriel is recognized for his leadership in academic and research environments, which is evidenced by his election as a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (C.A.E.) and a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Science, Society and Policy (ISSP).

Over the past decade, Dr. Gabriel’s administrative career has focused on institutional development. He served as the founding Associate Provost of Research and Graduate Programs at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT). During his tenure, UOIT’s research funding significantly increased, expanding over 30-fold in less than five years, leading to its listing among the top 50 research-intensive universities in Canada. This growth highlights his strategic vision and leadership in advancing research capabilities within an academic setting.

In 2009, Dr. Gabriel was seconded to the Ontario Ministry of Research & Innovation, where he served as the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) of Research and the first Science Adviser. In this role, he established foundational elements for strategic planning and evidence-based innovation policy. He has published extensively on innovation in a changing global landscape. His work includes the book “The Anatomy of Innovation-What makes innovation succeed in the 21st century?”, which has been translated into French and Chinese, indicating its relevance and impact on discussions surrounding innovation.
