Kasumi Arimura was born on February 13, 1993, in Itami, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. Her career in acting began in May 2010 with her debut in the drama serial “Hagane No Onna (Woman Of Steel)” and a commercial for Tokyo Disney Sea in 2011. Her first significant film role came in 2011 with “Gyaru Basara.” Arimura gained broader recognition and popularity with her appearance in the Morning drama “Amachan” in 2013, followed by a role in “Shitsuren Chocolatier” in 2014, which further boosted her profile as a rising talent in the Japanese entertainment industry.

Her career progressed with critically acclaimed roles, including the lead in the 2015 film “Flying Colors,” where she portrayed a troubled teenager striving for university admission. This performance earned her the Newcomer of the Year award at the 39th Japan Academy Film Prize. She continued to achieve success in television, starring in the 2017 asadora “Hiyokko,” for which she received the Best Actress award at the 94th Television Drama Academy Awards. In 2021, Arimura had a highly successful year, starring in the film “We Made A Beautiful Bouquet,” which was among the highest-grossing films in Japan and led to her winning the Best Actress award at the 45th Japan Academy Film Prize. She also appeared in the commercially successful “Rurouni Kenshin” final chapters, “The Final” and “The Beginning,”

Arimura has also tackled challenging roles such as a teacher falling for a younger student in the controversial but award-winning drama “Meet Me After School.” Her recent work includes “Zenkamono” (2021), “Ishiko and Haneo” (2022), and “Phases of the Moon” (2022). In 2023, she joined the NHK taiga drama “What Will You Do, Ieyasu?” and starred in the Netflix-produced film “Call Me Chihiro.” More recently, in 2024, Arimura appeared in the film “Dear Family” and the drama “Where Does The Sea Begin,” further solidifying her diverse acting portfolio. Her older sister is gravure idol Airi Arimura.
