Kate Rooney Mara was born on February 27, 1983, in Bedford, New York. She comes from a prominent background with deep ties to the National Football League, being a great-granddaughter of both Tim Mara, founder of the New York Giants, and Art Rooney Sr., founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Engaging in acting from a young age, Mara began performing in school musicals at nine and participated in various youth theater-arts programs. Despite being accepted to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, she deferred her admission to pursue her acting career, demonstrating an early commitment to her craft.
