About

Katherine Lee was born on September 14, 1981, in Huntington, West Virginia. She later moved to Milton, West Virginia, where she was raised. Lee pursued her higher education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she studied journalism and food science, graduating in 2003. During her studies, she also spent a semester abroad at The British Institute in Florence, Italy, broadening her culinary perspective. Her early career included working in various restaurants and gourmet food and wine establishments. In 2003, she was instrumental in the opening of Jeff and Eddy’s Restaurant, where she took on the role of house fishmonger.

Lee’s career in food media began to expand significantly in the mid-2000s. In July 2005, she co-founded the food-focused website OliveAndPeach.com, which provided a platform for her culinary insights until September 2006. In 2006, she gained wider recognition as the host of the first season of Bravo’s “Top Chef” before being succeeded by Padma Lakshmi. She continued to engage with the “Top Chef” franchise, returning as a guest judge for “Top Chef All Stars” in 2010. Her contributions to television also include appearances on programs such as “The Early Show,” “Extra,” “Paula’s Party,” “Martha,” “Today,” “The Nate Berkus Show,” “Rachael Ray Show,” and Fox News. In 2007, she served as a judge on “Iron Chef America.” She is known for her role as a co-host of Food Network’s talk show “The Kitchen” and as the host of Cooking Channel’s “Beach Bites with Katie Lee.”

Beyond television, Katie Lee has authored several cookbooks and a novel. Her first cookbook, “The Comfort Table,” was published by Simon & Schuster, followed by “The Comfort Table: Recipes for Everyday Occasions” in October 2009. In June 2011, she released her debut novel, “Groundswell.” Her published works also include “Endless Summer Cookbook” and “It’s Not Complicated: Simple Recipes for Every Day.” She is actively involved in community and philanthropic efforts, serving as a member of the Feeding America Entertainment Council and previously sitting on the council of Chefs for Humanity. She has also volunteered for Les Dames d’Escoffier, an organization dedicated to supporting women in the culinary profession.
