Katie Lowes

Katie Lowes was born on September 22, 1982, in Queens, New York City, New York. She attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, earning a BFA in acting. Her career began in 2004 with a screen role in the FX series “Rescue Me.” She subsequently appeared in various television series, including “The Sopranos,” “Without a Trace,” “NCIS,” “Ghost Whisperer,” “Castle,” “Leverage,” and “The Closer.” In 2008, she was a series regular in The CW’s short-lived comedy-drama “Easy Money,” starring alongside Laurie Metcalf. Lowes also gained experience in low-budget films such as “The Job” (2009), “Bear” (2010), and “Café” (2011).

Lowes achieved widespread recognition for her role as Quinn Perkins, a character with a complex past, in the ABC political drama series “Scandal,” created by Shonda Rhimes. Before her breakout role on “Scandal,” she had appeared in other Shonda Rhimes productions, including “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice.” She remained with “Scandal” for its full run from 2012 to 2018, appearing in 124 episodes. She also contributed her voice talent to animated features, notably “Wreck-It Ralph” (2012) as Candlehead and its sequel “Ralph Breaks the Internet” (2018), as well as “Frozen” (2013) with additional voices and motion work for the song “Let It Go,” and “Big Hero 6” (2014) as Abigail.

In 2018, Lowes made her Broadway debut in the musical “Waitress” alongside her husband, Adam Shapiro. More recently, in 2022, she played Rachel DeLoache Williams in the Netflix miniseries “Inventing Anna.” She also took on a main cast role as Jen Smallwood in the CBS sitcom “How We Roll” in 2022 and has an upcoming role as Jill in “The Hunting Wives” (2025). Alongside her husband, she co-founded and directs the IAMA Theater Company in Los Angeles, supporting the local black box theater community.
