Keith Cromwell is an accomplished American professional lacrosse player known for his dynamic play as an attackman. A standout in the lacrosse community, he played for the Minnesota Swarm in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) and the Long Island Lizards in Major League Lacrosse (MLL). Cromwell graduated from Rutgers University in 2001, where he left an indelible mark on the program, becoming its all-time leading scorer with 152 goals and 266 points. His remarkable collegiate career solidified his reputation as one of the best players in Rutgers history.
During his time at Rutgers from 1998 to 2001, Cromwell achieved numerous accolades, including being named a three-time USILA Lacrosse All-American. He capped off his career with First Team All-American honors in 2001, and his contributions to the team were recognized through multiple awards, including the prestigious Coursen Award for Outstanding Male Athlete. As a two-time team captain and four-time winner of the William Miller Trophy, he demonstrated exceptional leadership both on and off the field. His scoring prowess included multiple seasons with over 65 points, and he remains among the top ten for single-season performances in Rutgers lacrosse history.
After college, Cromwell was selected seventh overall in the inaugural MLL Draft, quickly making a name for himself as the league’s Rookie of the Year in 2001. Over a 12-season career in the MLL, he ranked among the top five all-time in assists, showcasing his vision and playmaking abilities. His contributions to the sport were further highlighted when he played on the championship-winning Philadelphia Barrage team in 2004. In recognition of his achievements, Cromwell was inducted into the Long Island Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2013, further cementing his legacy in the game.
Beyond his playing career, Cromwell has dedicated himself to coaching and mentoring the next generation of lacrosse players. In 2007, he took on the role of Boys Varsity Lacrosse Offensive Coordinator at Manhasset High School, and he later served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Rutgers, during the 2011-12 season. Regularly returning to Rutgers for alumni events, Cromwell shares his expertise and experiences with current players, emphasizing the importance of hard work and dedication.
