Kevin Pho

Kevin Pho was born in Princeton, New Jersey, and grew up in Sarnia and Richmond Hill, Ontario. He pursued his higher education at Boston University, earning both his B.A. and M.D. in 1999. Following this, he completed the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Boston University Medical Center. In 2004, Dr. Pho launched his blog, KevinMD, after receiving positive feedback on a post he wrote about the Vioxx recall. His work prior to this included serving as a researcher for Google Answers, where he observed a gap in accessible medical information for patients. This realization motivated him to create a platform that would improve patient access to reliable health care information and foster communication within the medical community.

Dr. Pho’s platform, KevinMD.com, has grown significantly, becoming a highly influential online resource with over 3 million monthly page views and more than 250,000 followers across Facebook and Twitter. The New York Times has recognized KevinMD as “a highly-coveted publishing place for doctors and patients,” while Forbes deemed it a “must-read health blog.” CNN also recommended @KevinMD as one of its top five Twitter health feeds. In 2012, Klout identified him as the top social media influencer in both health care and medicine. Dr. Pho is also an author, co-writing “Establishing, Managing, and Protecting Your Online Reputation: A Social Media Guide for Physicians and Medical Practices,” which offers guidance to medical professionals on navigating their online presence.

Beyond his online presence and authorship, Dr. Pho is a national media commentator and a frequent keynote speaker at major conferences for both clinicians and non-clinicians. His media appearances include CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, New England Cable News, and various radio programs. He is also a member of USA Today’s Board of Contributors, with opinion pieces featured in national and local publications such as USA Today, CNN.com, The New York Times, and Medscape. Dr. Pho has been consistently recognized as a ‘Top Doctor’ by New Hampshire magazine in 2017, 2018, and 2019, reflecting his ongoing clinical practice in Nashua, New Hampshire, with St. Joseph Hospital Adult Medicine.
