About

Kevin David Sorbo was born on September 24, 1958, in Mound, Minnesota. He pursued a double major in marketing and advertising at Minnesota State University Moorhead, funding his education through modeling for print and television advertisements across Europe and Australia in the mid-1980s. During this period, he began his acting career with minor roles in television shows like “Santa Barbara” (1986) and “1st & Ten” (1988), and later appeared in over 150 commercials, including a notable one for Jim Beam bourbon whiskey.

Sorbo achieved his professional breakthrough in 1993, securing the leading role of Hercules in a series of five television films for Universal Television’s Action Pack. The success of these films led to the television series “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” (1995–1999), where he starred as the titular demigod. This series gained international popularity, airing in 176 countries and becoming one of the highest-rated syndicated television shows of its time. Following this, Sorbo took on another significant role as Captain Dylan Hunt in “Andromeda” (2000–2005), a science-fiction drama that premiered as the number one hour-long show in first-run syndication and maintained its top position throughout its run. His film career includes his first leading role in the 1997 fantasy film “Kull the Conqueror,” as well as notable appearances in Christian films such as “God’s Not Dead” (2014) and “Let There Be Light” (2017), which he also directed.

In late 1997, Sorbo experienced an aneurysm and three strokes, which significantly impacted his physical abilities and led to a reduced filming schedule for the later seasons of “Hercules.” This health challenge and his subsequent recovery were detailed in his 2011 autobiography, “True Strength: My Journey from Hercules to Mere Mortal—and How Nearly Dying Saved My Life.” He has since become an advocate for stroke awareness, receiving the Public Leadership in Neurology Award from the American Academy of Neurology and the American Brain Foundation in 2013. Beyond his acting career, Sorbo is a dedicated philanthropist, serving as the spokesman and chair for A World Fit for Kids!, a non-profit organization focused on mentoring inner-city youth through sports, fitness, and positive role models.
