Kevin Sussman was born on December 4, 1970, in Staten Island, New York City, New York. He pursued his education at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Manhattan, following a year at the College of Staten Island. Sussman also studied with acting teacher Uta Hagen for four years. Early in his career, he appeared in commercials for companies such as FedEx, often playing characters with a nerdy persona. During this period, he also worked as a computer consultant, using his day job to support his acting ambitions in New York City.
Sussman made his film debut in 1999 in “Liberty Heights.” Over the next few years, he secured roles in various films, including “Almost Famous” (2000), “Wet Hot American Summer” (2001), and “Changing Lanes” (2002). His television career gained momentum with his role as Walter, Betty’s boyfriend, in the ABC comedy-drama “Ugly Betty” from 2006 to 2007. Later, he joined the cast of “The Big Bang Theory” in 2009 as Stuart Bloom, a role that became widely recognized and led to his promotion to a series regular starting in the sixth season. He remained with the show until its conclusion in 2019, appearing in 84 episodes.
Beyond acting, Sussman has also contributed as a writer. In 2011 and 2012, he collaborated with “The Big Bang Theory” co-star John Ross Bowie to develop two television comedies: “The Ever After Part” for FOX and “The Second Coming of Rob” for CBS. Their partnership continued with the stop-motion animated comedy “Dark Minions,” which was sold to Amazon Studios in 2013, with the pilot debuting the same year. More recently, in 2023, he took on the role of Walter Pine in the TV miniseries “Lessons in Chemistry.” He is also set to star in the upcoming TV Series “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.”
