Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu, born on April 19, 1990, in China, rose to prominence after winning the first teen edition of “Pinoy Big Brother.” Her initial success led to a contract with Star Magic and regular appearances with Gerald Anderson in shows like “ASAP XV.” In 2007, she starred in the acclaimed primetime TV series “Sana Maulit Muli,” earning her the Most Promising Female Star and Best New Female TV Personality awards. She further expanded her career with the release of her debut album “Gwa Ai Di,” which achieved Gold Record status, and a leading role in the Philippine adaptation of “My Girl” in 2008.
Chiu solidified her position in the entertainment industry with significant roles in successful projects. In 2009, she starred in “Tayong Dalawa,” earning acting awards and marking her first film to surpass the P100 million mark with “I Love You, Goodbye.” Her career continued to flourish with highly-rated dramas such as “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo” (2010), and commercially successful films including “Bride for Rent” (2014), which became the sixth highest-grossing Filipino film of all time. Her acting range was further showcased in the horror film “The Healing” (2012) and the period drama “Ikaw Lamang” (2014). She was named “Princess of Philippine Movies and TV” for her consistent achievements.
Beyond her acting and music career, Chiu has engaged in philanthropic efforts and business ventures. In 2015, Forbes Asia recognized her as one of Asia Pacific’s most influential Filipino personalities. She has received numerous accolades including a Seoul International Drama Award and multiple FAMAS and Star Awards. As a recording artist, all of her studio albums have achieved Gold or Platinum certification. Chiu actively supported various causes, including asthma awareness campaigns with GlaxoSmithKline and disaster relief operations for Typhoon Yolanda. In 2022, she launched her bag business, House of Little Bunny Philippines, and in 2023, it was revealed she owned a commercial building in Cagayan de Oro, demonstrating her business acumen.
