Trevante Rhodes

Born on February 10, 1990, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, Trevante Nemour Rhodes later moved to Little Elm, Texas, at age ten. Before pursuing acting, Rhodes was an accomplished track and field sprinter. He earned four letters in both football and track and field during his high school years at Little Elm High School, specializing in the 100 and 200-meter dash. Despite an ACL injury during his senior year of high school football, he secured an athletic scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied kinesiology. During his collegiate athletic career from 2008 to 2012, Rhodes represented the Texas Longhorns and notably contributed to the U.S. squad winning a gold medal in the 4×100 meters relay at the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

After graduating, Rhodes immediately embarked on an acting career, initially taking on supporting roles. His early work includes appearances in the film “Open Windows” (2014) opposite Elijah Wood, and a recurring role as Ramsey Walters in Tyler Perry’s television series “If Loving You Is Wrong” (2015-2016). He also appeared in the Fox series “Gang Related” and the HBO series “Westworld.” A significant turning point in his career arrived in 2016 with his performance as the adult Chiron, also known as Black, in the critically acclaimed film “Moonlight.” This role garnered him widespread recognition and several accolades, marking his breakout in the industry. The film itself achieved significant success, winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture – Drama and the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Following his success in “Moonlight,” Rhodes expanded his filmography with prominent roles in various genres. In 2018, he co-starred in the science-fiction action film “The Predator” and the post-apocalyptic thriller “Bird Box.” His career progression continued into television, where he took on the challenging role of portraying the legendary boxer Mike Tyson in the Hulu miniseries “Mike” (2022), where he also served as an executive producer. Most recently, in 2024, Rhodes starred alongside Kelly Rowland in “Mea Culpa,” a film written and directed by Tyler Perry for Netflix. His production company, Toula67 Entertainment (also known as Toula Capital), aided in the production of the “Mike” miniseries, demonstrating his growing involvement behind the scenes.
