Trevante Rhodes has transitioned from a decorated track and field athlete to an acclaimed actor, earning recognition for his impactful roles in cinema and television. After earning a gold medal in the 4×100 meters relay as part of the U.S. squad at the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Trevante Rhodes launched his acting career. His early work included a debut film appearance in I Came Back (2012), followed by roles in the 2014 film Open Windows opposite Elijah Wood, and the Fox series Gang Related.
He also secured a recurring role as Ramsey Walters in Tyler Perrys television series If Loving You Is Wrong (2015-2016) and appeared in HBOs Westworld. Rhodes career-defining moment arrived in 2016 with his acclaimed performance as the adult Chiron, also known as Black, in the critically praised film Moonlight. This pivotal role earned him widespread recognition, with the film itself winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture Drama and Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. Most recently, in 2024, Trevante Rhodes starred alongside Kelly Rowland in the Netflix film Mea Culpa, a captivating thriller written and directed by Tyler Perry.
