About

Tia Dashon Mowry was born on July 6, 1978, in Gelnhausen, Hesse, West Germany. Her early life involved moving due to her father’s U.S. Army service, eventually settling in California. Along with her twin sister Tamera, Tia entered pageants and talent shows, leading to their pursuit of an acting career. They secured their breakout role after a producer noticed them on the set of ‘Full House’, where their brother Tahj Mowry made appearances. This led to the development of the sitcom ‘Sister, Sister’.

Her career began with commercial and small television roles in the early 1990s. Mowry gained significant recognition for her starring role as Tia Landry in the sitcom ‘Sister, Sister’, which ran from 1994 to 1999. The series initially aired on ABC for two years before being picked up by The WB for an additional four years. During this period, she and her sister also formed a singing group called Voices, releasing the single “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!” in 1992 which charted on the Billboard Hot 100. Post ‘Sister, Sister’, Mowry continued to build her career, starring in the Disney Channel Original Movie ‘Twitches’ (2005) and its sequel ‘Twitches Too’ (2007) alongside her sister. She also pursued higher education, studying psychology at Pepperdine University.

Mowry’s career progression demonstrates versatility across various genres, including comedic and dramatic roles. She starred as Melanie Barnett in the comedy-drama series ‘The Game’ from 2006 to 2012 and returned for a guest appearance in 2015. Other notable television roles include Stephanie Phillips in the sitcom ‘Instant Mom’ (2013–2015) and Cocoa McKellan in the Netflix comedy series ‘Family Reunion’ (2019–2022), which received multiple NAACP Image Award nominations for Outstanding Children’s Program. In film, she appeared in ‘The Hot Chick’ (2002), ‘Baggage Claim’ (2013), and ‘Indivisible’ (2018). Beyond acting, Mowry has extended her brand to authorship with ‘Oh, Baby: Pregnancy Tales and Advice from One Hot Mama to Another’ (2012) and ‘Twintution’ (2016), hosted the Cooking Channel series ‘Tia Mowry at Home’ (2015-2017), and launched a podcast ‘Mostly Mom with Tia Mowry’. In 2021, she released her second cookbook, ‘The Quick Fix Kitchen’, and partnered with Gibson for a homeware collection, ‘Spice! by Tia Mowry’, further expanding her entrepreneurial endeavors.
