Kim Woojin is a world-renowned archer who represents Republic of Korea and previously held the world record in men’s individual recurve archery. Right-handed shooter Woojin – who uses 30-inch arrows and a draw weight of 46 pounds – first held the world number one ranking in 2011.In 2016 he helped the South Korean men’s archery team defeat the United States in the final of the men’s team archery event at the Summer Olympics, earning his first Olympic gold medal. In 2015 Woojin became the first man to win the World Archery Championships twice since 1985.
Born in Okcheon, North Chungcheong, Woojin began his archery career in 2001, and rose to prominence following his international debut in 2009. Two years later he won an individual gold medal at the 2011 World Archery Championships and a second gold medal as part of the winning men’s team. 2012 saw him win another individual gold medal at the FITA Archery World Cup, and three years later Woojin was once again selected for the Korean national team, going on to win the World Archery Championship for a second time.
After qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics, Woojin scored 700 out of a possible 720 in the individual men’s qualifying round to set a new world record, and was also part of the Korean national men’s team who took home the Olympic gold.
Currently living in KOR flag and training with coach Hong Seung Jin at Chungju City, Woojin is undoubtedly one to watch for the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games.
