Austin Watson, known professionally as King Woods, was born on September 4, 1986, in Columbus, Georgia. He pursued higher education, earning bachelor’s degrees in psychology and philosophy from Furman University in 2008, followed by a master’s degree in psychology. Watson began his professional wrestling career in 2005, training with Rob Adonis’ Ultimate Christian Wrestling and developing his Austin Creed moniker, inspired by the character Apollo Creed. His early career included stints with NWA Anarchy, where he held the NWA Anarchy Tag Team Championship, and Deep South Wrestling (DSW), where he captured the DSW Heavyweight Championship in 2007, becoming the final holder of the title before the company closed.
From 2007 to 2010, Watson competed in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) as Consequences Creed, where he achieved significant success, including winning the TNA World Tag Team Championship with Jay Lethal as part of the team Lethal Consequences. His tenure at TNA showcased his in-ring abilities and laid the groundwork for his future career. After a brief period in New Japan Pro-Wrestling in 2010 and winning the ECWA Super 8 Tournament that same year, Watson signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). He joined Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), WWE’s developmental territory, and later NXT, where he adopted the ring name Xavier Woods. His early WWE years involved forming a tag team with R-Truth and developing a character embracing 1990s pop culture.
In 2014, a pivotal moment in his career occurred with the formation of The New Day alongside Big E and Kofi Kingston. What began as a heel faction quickly evolved into one of the most popular and decorated tag teams in WWE history, demonstrating Woods’ versatility and entertainment skills. Beyond wrestling, Watson, under the name Austin Creed, launched the highly successful YouTube channel “UpUpDownDown” in 2015, where he plays video games with fellow wrestlers and gaming personalities, earning a Guinness World Record for Most Subscribed-to Celebrity Video Gaming Channel. His commitment to both his wrestling career and his passion for gaming highlights his dynamic presence in and out of the ring.
