Kyle Hamilton was born on March 16, 2001, in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. His father, Derrick Hamilton, was a professional basketball player, and Kyle briefly lived in Russia before his family settled in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. He attended Marist School in Brookhaven, Georgia, where he excelled in both safety and wide receiver positions for the football team. His collegiate career began at the University of Notre Dame in 2019, where he quickly made an impact. In his second game, he recorded a 35-yard interception return for his first career touchdown. He earned Freshman All-American honors from the Football Writers Association of America.
During his sophomore year in 2020, Hamilton became a starter, achieving First-Team All-ACC status with 63 tackles, six pass breakups, and an interception. In 2021, despite a knee injury limiting him to seven games, he was recognized as a consensus All-American, recording 34 combined tackles, three interceptions, and four pass deflections. He declared for the 2022 NFL Draft, where he was selected 14th overall by the Baltimore Ravens. Hamilton signed a rookie contract on June 7, 2022, marking the beginning of his professional career.
In his 2022 rookie season, Hamilton played in 16 of 17 games, recording 62 total tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble. He was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. The 2023 season saw him named the starting strong safety, where he tied an NFL record with three sacks in the first half of a game against the Indianapolis Colts and secured his first NFL interception against the Cleveland Browns. He achieved his first NFL touchdown with an 18-yard pick-six against the Browns in Week 10. For his performance, he received AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 16 and was selected for the 2023 AFC Pro Bowl Team. In 2024, he concluded the season with 107 combined tackles, making his second consecutive Pro Bowl. On August 27, 2025, he signed a record-setting four-year, $100.4 million contract extension with the Ravens, becoming the highest-paid safety in NFL history, with $82 million guaranteed.
