Kyle Teel

Kyle Henry Teel was born on February 15, 2002, in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He attended Mahwah High School, where he excelled in baseball, playing multiple positions including shortstop, outfielder, pitcher, and catcher. During his senior year, Teel was named the New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year. He also played quarterback for his high school football team. Opting out of the 2020 MLB draft, Teel committed to the University of Virginia.

At the University of Virginia, Teel played various roles, including designated hitter, right fielder, and catcher. In his freshman year, he earned third-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) honors. He continued to develop, primarily as a catcher, in his sophomore season. Teel’s junior year in 2023 was particularly notable; he was named ACC Player of the Year, received the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, and the Johnny Bench Award. He was also a consensus selection to the 2023 College Baseball All-America Team. His collegiate career statistics at Virginia included a .343 batting average, 48 doubles, 28 home runs, and 155 RBI over three seasons, helping the Cavaliers reach the College World Series in 2021 and 2023.

Teel was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the first round as the 14th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, signing for a reported $4 million. He made his professional debut in August 2023 with the Florida Complex League Red Sox and quickly advanced through the minor league system. In 2024, he played for the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs, earning Double-A All-Star honors and an Eastern League postseason All-Star selection, and was later promoted to the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox. In December 2024, Teel was traded to the Chicago White Sox. He made his MLB debut on June 6, 2025, with the White Sox, and hit his first major league home run in July 2025. Teel also represented Team Italy in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
