Larissa Franklin was born on March 26, 1993, in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. Her softball journey began at five years old, and after a brief hiatus for competitive figure skating, she returned to the sport. Franklin’s professional career with the national team started in 2011 at the WBSC Junior Women’s World Championship, where the team placed fifth. She then joined the senior team in 2013, participating in the World Cup of Softball and the WBSC Americas Qualifier, where Canada earned a silver medal. She continued to be a consistent presence in the outfield for Canada, competing in the 2014, 2016, and 2018 WBSC Women’s Softball World Championships, securing bronze medals in the latter two events.
Franklin played a pivotal role in securing significant achievements for Team Canada. She was part of the gold medal-winning team at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto. At the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, she showcased her offensive capabilities, leading the team with eight hits and a .444 batting average, contributing to a silver medal finish. Weeks later, her performance, including two triples, helped the team qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics at the WBSC Americas Olympic Qualifier in Surrey, B.C. In her Olympic debut, Franklin recorded four hits and three RBIs, which contributed to Canada earning a bronze medal.
Beyond her international success, Franklin had a notable collegiate career. During her junior year at Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), she led the team in batting average (.459), setting school records for hits (84) and stolen bases (19). She also established IPFW school records with 71 stolen bases and 207 hits. Following her time at IPFW, she transferred to Western Kentucky University in 2015, where in her single season, she tied the school’s record for the longest hit streak at 15 games. She pursued a major in psychological science with a minor in health and nutrition and has expressed interest in a career as a financial planner. Franklin is also an athlete ambassador for KidSport BC.
