A member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, Larry Robinson is an iconic former Canadian ice hockey player and coach who is best known for playing with the Montreal Canadiens and Los Angeles Kings.
Hailing from Ontario, Robinson began his career playing junior hockey with the Brockville Braves and Kitchener Rangers before moving into the professional leagues. His early career saw him playing with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs. After several years, he made it into the Montreal Canadiens and became part of the National Hockey League, playing with the Habs for seventeen seasons.
During this time, Robinson won several trophies, including the James Norris Memorial Trophy and Conn Smythe Trophy and was named several times to the league’s all-star teams. With a career-high of 85 points, Robinson was one of the best in the game and played for Team Canada three times. With the Canadiens, he won the Stanley Cup six times and has a career plus-minus rating of +730. He played a further three seasons for the Los Angeles Kings, before retiring in 1992.
Affectionately known as Big Bird due to his size, Robinson is hailed as one of the best and was named as one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players of all time by the National Hockey League in 2017. After his retirement, Robinson worked as a coach with several teams, including the New Jersey Devils, the Los Angeles Kings, the San Jose Sharks, and the St. Louis Blues. An inspiration to many, in 2014 Robinson was inducted into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame.
