Professional Lithuanian modern pentathlete Laura Asadauskaitė is a renowned Olympic gold medallist and former Sportswoman of the Year.
After making her international debut in the Senior World Cup during 2003, Asadauskaitė has gone on to enjoy an immensely successful sporting career as a pentathlete. After winning her first silver medal in 2004 at the UIPM Biathle World Championships in Germany, Asadauskaitė soon went on to win her first international bronze medal at the World Championships during 2007 in Germany. She has since gone on to win a further five bronze, three silver and an impressive ten gold medals competing as part of both the European and World Championships. She enjoyed a particularly good year during 2016 when she won two golds at the European Championships, held in Bulgaria, participating in both the Woman’s team and individual events. More recently Asadauskaitė performed to an exceptional level at the 2019 European Championships in England, at which she won a bronze medal in the Women’s team event, followed by a gold medal in the Women’s individual event.
After competing at the Olympic Games in Beijing during 2008, Asadauskaitė returned to the London Olympics during 2012 at which she won a gold medal. She has since gone on to compete at the 2016 Ri de Janeiro Olympics and recently qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. An acclaimed athlete throughout the pentathlon community, Asadauskaitė has been named Sportswoman of the year in both 2011, 2015 and 2019.
