Hailing from Tennessee, Leanne Morgan is a southern American comedian whose warm humour and knack for homespun storytelling keep audiences across the States coming back for more. She was a finalist on Funniest Mom in America (part of Nickelodeon’s “Nick at Nite” line-up), named by ABC talk show The View as one of their Funniest Housewives, and appeared regularly on the legendary Dr Phil show as one of his advice panel. Currently developing her own sitcom with the writer behind hit shows such as Roseanne and Home Improvement, Morgan’s career trajectory is firmly pointed skywards.
Morgan’s journey is all the more remarkable given her unusual path to stand-up comedy. Raised in a small farming community, Morgan initially married young and settled down to life as a housewife. When her husband became abusive, she left him and enrolled at the University of Tennessee where she met her second husband. After graduating, she began making people laugh at local jewellery parties (events where people sell their home-made jewellery). At one such event, she was overheard by a local club owner who asked if she could do an hour-long stand-up set at his club. She’s never looked back.
She relocated to San Antonio and began appearing at local comedy clubs, in one instance being instantly promoted from the foot of the bill to the top, something very rare at the start of one’s comedy career. TV appearances soon began and video clips of her stand-up routines regularly garner hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube. She is also a regular on radio and has her own podcast, Sweaty & P*ssed.
