Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer was born in Manhattan, New York, on May 24, 1977. She pursued her theatrical education at the University of Cincinnati – College-Conservatory of Music, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1999. Early in her career, Kritzer established a presence in regional and Off-Broadway productions, showcasing her versatility in musicals such as “Funny Girl” (2001) as Fanny at Paper Mill Playhouse, “Babes in Arms” (2002) as Baby Rose, and “Grease” (2003) as Rizzo, also at Paper Mill Playhouse. Her early Off-Broadway work included roles in “Bat Boy” (2001) and “Godspell” (2000).
Kritzer’s Broadway debut occurred in “Hairspray” (2004) as Shelly. She gained significant recognition with a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical for “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” (2006) Off-Broadway. In 2007, she earned a Clarence Derwent Award for her performance as Serena in “Legally Blonde” on Broadway. Her career continued to progress with prominent roles in various Broadway productions, including “A Catered Affair” (2008), where she portrayed Janey Hurley, and later in “Sondheim on Sondheim” (2010).
More recently, Kritzer has appeared in several notable productions, earning further accolades. She received a Lucille Lortel Award in 2016 for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical for “The Robber Bridegroom” Off-Broadway. Her portrayal of Delia Schlimmer and Miss Argentina in “Beetlejuice” (2019 Broadway premiere, 2022 revival) showcased her comedic talent. In 2023, she starred as the Lady of the Lake in the Broadway revival of “Spamalot,” which earned her a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical in 2024. Her television credits include “Vinyl” (2016), “New Amsterdam” (2021–2022), “Bridge and Tunnel” (2021–2022), “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (2023) as Carol Burnett, and as the voice of Rosie in the adult animated musical series “Hazbin Hotel” (2024–present). Kritzer has also performed in solo shows, such as “Burn It To The Ground” and “Beautiful Disaster.”
