Lucas Saatkamp is a 6’10” volleyball player who came home from the Olympics in 2012 decorated in silver and 2016 decorated in gold.
This Brazilian has played nationally since 2005, and in his rookie year on the junior team, he got silver in the World Championship. In 2007 and 2008, he’d go on to get silver two years in a row in the America’s Cup, where he won the individual award of “Best Server,” as well as gold in the Pan American Games and the Brazilian Championship, where he earned the title “Best Middle Blocker.”
And that wouldn’t be his last Brazilian Championship: with his clubs, he’d bring home gold again in 2008, 2009, and 2012. He also got first place in the 2015 Italian Championship, Italian SuperCup, and the Italian Cup, along with the Brazilian Superliga in 2018, where again, he was awarded “Best Middle Blocker;” an honor he’d receive three more times in 2017, 2018, and 2019 from the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball World League.
Also, Saatkamp competed at the South American Club Championship, where his team got first place. History would repeat itself in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017, with four more golds. And in the 2013 competition, he was spotted again for his talent: this time, being entitled “Best Spiker.”
In competition, he’s placed in seven FIVB World League events, with five silvers and two golds. Continuing his success in the FIVB series, Saatkamp got bronze in 2011 and gold in 2019 for the FIVB World Cup. As for the FIVB World Championship, he added two silvers and one gold to his collection. Most impressively, he’s won the World Grand Champions Cup three times.
