Lyn Harris was raised between Yorkshire and Scotland, developing an early connection to natural landscapes that would later influence her work. She began her formal perfumery training with Monique Schlienger in Paris before advancing her skills with Robertet, a renowned fragrance house in Grasse, France. This specialized training provided her with a deep understanding of natural materials and their application in fragrance creation.
In 2000, Harris co-founded Miller Harris with Christophe Michel, quickly establishing a reputation for distinctive perfumes and candles. During her time with Miller Harris, she created notable fragrances such as L’Air de Rien, originally a bespoke scent for Jane Birkin, as well as Citron Citron and Tea Tonique. By 2012, London-based private equity fund Neo Capital acquired a stake in the company. In 2014, while remaining a consultant and shareholder for Miller Harris, Harris shifted her focus to a new venture.
This new endeavor, Perfumer H, launched in 2015, allowed Harris to work independently from her London laboratory while maintaining access to Robertet’s materials. Perfumer H emphasizes an ecosystem of elegance and simplicity, collaborating with artisans like master glass blower Michael Ruh for unique handblown bottles with a refill service. Her continuous work explores the relationship between natural elements and olfactory creation, with inspiration often drawn from personal experiences and observations, including recent fragrances inspired by Portugal and artwork like Monet’s “Impression, Sunrise.”
