Natasha Ferguson, known professionally as MAAD, was born in New York and spent her formative years in New Jersey. Her early life was immersed in creative arts, attending the Dance Theatre of Harlem and the Harlem School of the Arts, where she studied dance. This foundational training, coupled with her mother’s work as a stylist and her father’s pursuit of music, instilled in her a strong inclination towards self-expression and entertainment from a young age. She initially explored modeling, further expanding her presence in creative sectors. Her dedication to music remained a constant, driving her towards a career that combined various artistic disciplines.
MAAD began her professional journey as a recording artist and songwriter, working with established musicians and producers such as GRADES (Dua Lipa, NAO), The VAMP (Ne-Yo), Deputy (Rihanna, J. Cole), Ro James, Midas Hutch, and The Stereotypes (Bruno Mars, Fifth Harmony). This period was crucial for developing her songwriting skills and expanding her professional network within the music industry. Seeking to independently pursue her artistic endeavors, MAAD began to explore DJing, initially as a means to showcase her own music. This transition proved successful, allowing her to deep her musical understanding and engage with live audiences. She honed her DJing skills by learning from experienced DJs such as Quiana Parks and Stadium Status, and she has since independently built a notable client list for her DJ services.
Over her career, MAAD has released two EPs, “Lè Funk” in 2017 and “Technicolor” in 2018. She has performed at significant events including LA Pride, World Pride in Times Square with MNEK, and made her debut at SXSW for WFNM’s showcase. Her work as a DJ has led to partnerships with major brands, performing at events for Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Instagram, Samsung, Snapchat, Beautycon, Laura Mercier, Piaget, PopSugar x Coachella, and Spotify at Cannes Lion, where she notably opened for artists like Nas and Swizz Beatz. In addition to her musical accomplishments, MAAD has modeled for publications and brands including VFiles, i-D, Wonderland, Schön!, Notion, ELLE, NYLON, Seventeen, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and A Peace Treaty x Vogue, reflecting her versatile presence in both music and fashion.
