Madame Gandhi has transitioned from an accomplished touring drummer and music industry analyst to an acclaimed electronic music artist and activist. After recording live drums for M.I.A.’s track ‘Bad Girls’ in 2012, Madame Gandhi was invited by M.I.A. to be the touring drummer for her ‘Matangi’ album tour in February 2013. Prior to her musical breakthrough, Gandhi earned an undergraduate degree in mathematics, political science, and women’s studies from Georgetown University in 2011.
The following year, 2017, marked a period of extensive activity, including the release of ‘Voices Remixed,’ a collaboration with female-identifying producers. She served as the opening act for Ani DiFranco’s Rise Up Tour and undertook extensive solo tours across Europe and India. Gandhi also began delivering talks at prominent organizations such as Airbnb, Pandora Radio, Spotify, and the United Nations, alongside numerous college campuses. Her artistic momentum continued in 2019 with the release of her second EP, ‘Visions,’ which also marked the beginning of her strategic partnership with Sony Music Masterworks.
Madame Gandhi has since become a fixture at major music festivals, performing at esteemed events such as Pitchfork, Lightning in a Bottle, Roskilde, and SXSW. Her work has garnered significant industry recognition, including a SXSW Best Music Video jury award in 2021. In addition to her musical accomplishments, Madame Gandhi has received considerable acclaim for her broader impact. In 2020, she was honored as a Ted Fellow, and her influence was further acknowledged with her inclusion in Forbes’ ’30 Under 30′ class of 2019 and the BBC’s ‘100 Women’ list in 2020, highlighting her unique position across music, activism, and thought leadership.
