Maddie Musselman

Maddie Musselman was born on June 16, 1998, in Newport Beach, California, the daughter of Jeff and Karen Musselman. Her athletic background is notable, with her father, Jeff Musselman, having played professional baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets, and her mother, Karen, having played soccer at Rutgers. Maddie developed into a prominent water polo player, competing at the highest levels of the sport. She attended Corona del Mar High School before graduating from Laurel Springs Academy in 2016. Musselman then pursued her collegiate career at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she earned a degree in Physiological Science.

Throughout her career, Musselman has achieved significant milestones, including being a three-time Olympian (2016, 2020, 2024) and a two-time Olympic gold medalist, securing gold in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020. She has also won five World Championships gold medals (2015, 2017, 2019, 2022, 2024), demonstrating consistent performance at the elite level. Musselman’s individual accomplishments include being named the MVP of major international tournaments, such as the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the 2019 and 2021 FINA World League Super Finals, and the 2017 FINA World Championships. Her college career at UCLA was equally distinguished, where she became the all-time leading scorer with 252 goals and was a four-time First-Team All-American. She was named MPSF Player of the Year in 2022 and Women’s Total Player of the Year by Total Waterpolo in 2021 and 2022.

Musselman’s career progression highlights her consistent excellence and leadership. She has consistently led her teams in scoring at various international competitions, including 23 goals at the 2023 World Aquatics World Cup and 20 goals at the 2022 FINA World Championships. Her impactful play has earned her accolades such as the Most Valuable Player in the Gold Medal match at the 2022 FINA World Championships. Off the field, Maddie Musselman married Patrick Woepse in September 2023 and is preparing to attend Physician Assistant school in Fall 2024. Her personal life, including supporting her husband through medical challenges, has also been a source of motivation, contributing to her resilience and performance.
