Madelaine Grobbelaar Petsch was born on August 18, 1994, in Port Orchard, Washington. Her parents are from South Africa, and she divided her early life between the two countries. She began dance classes at age three and theater classes at five, demonstrating an early dedication to performing arts. Petsch attended the Tacoma School of the Arts and later moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career. Before achieving widespread recognition, she worked as a barista to support herself.
