Malik Beasley is an emerging NBA star who graduated from exciting high-school prospect to ACC All-Freshman to NBA rookie to starting small forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves with the best scoring average of his career.
Beasley was born in 1996 in Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended Saint Francis High School. It was here that his natural ability as a basketball player first came to the fore. By the end of his senior year, he was not only being named in the All-State Class A First Team, he was also being named the State Class 1A Player of the Year — little wonder college sports website Rivals.com rated him as a four-star prospect. In 2015, he began attending Florida State University where he began playing for their Seminoles team. He quickly made an impact, being named in the Atlantic Coast Conference’s All-Freshman Team. In the spring of 2016, with three years of college still to go, Beasley took the characteristically bold step of declaring himself eligible for that year’s NBA Draft, held in June.
Beasley’s gamble paid off, and he was selected as the 19th pick of the draft by the Denver Nuggets, signing a rookie contract with them that August. Three months later, he got his breakthrough when he scored an incredible 12 points in 15 minutes in a closely fought match against the Golden State Warriors. He also spent time playing with Sioux Falls Skyforce in the NBA Development League. By the 2018-19 season, however, he was firmly established with the Nuggets, appearing in 81 games for them during the campaign. A 2020 move to the Minnesota Timberwolves saw his scoring average reach an all-time high, showing that his best is yet to come.
