Mac McClung is a professional basketball player known for his electrifying dunks and dynamic play, transitioning from a highly-regarded high school talent to an NBA G League MVP and multiple-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion. After leading Gate City High School to its first state championship in 2018 and establishing multiple scoring records, Mac McClung has become a celebrated professional basketball player known for his dynamic athleticism and electrifying dunks. During his junior year in February 2017, McClung scored a career-high 64 points in a single high school game. He subsequently broke Allen Iverson’s Virginia High School League (VHSL) single-season scoring record in February 2018.
McClung concluded his high school career by scoring 47 points in the state title game, breaking a VHSL all-classes scoring record previously held by NBA player JJ Redick, and amassed a total of 2,801 points, an all-classes VHSL record. He also showcased his aerial prowess by winning the slam dunk contest at the Ballislife All-American Game in 2018. McClung continued his collegiate career at Georgetown Hoyas from 2018 to 2020, where he earned a spot on the Big East All-Freshman Team in 2019, averaging 13.1 points per game as a freshman and 15.7 points per game as a sophomore. He then transferred to Texas Tech for the 2020-2021 season, where he averaged 15.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
His most recent NBA affiliation includes a stint with the Orlando Magic during the 2024-2025 season.
