Marcel Hug, known as ‘The Silver Bullet’, is a Paralympic athlete from Switzerland specializing in T54 wheelchair racing. His career spans multiple Paralympic Games and World Championships, accumulating numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals. After making his international debut at the Athens 2004 Summer Paralympics, Marcel Hug, known as ‘The Silver Bullet’, immediately secured two bronze medals in the 800m and 1500m T54 events. This early success led to him being recognized as the ‘Newcomer of the Year 2004’ by Credit Suisse Sports, and he officially joined the Swiss national team the following year.
He further established his prowess in long-distance racing by winning the Berlin Marathon in both 2011 and 2012. At the London 2012 Paralympic Games, Hug secured silver medals in both the 800m T54 and the Marathon T54. His dominance continued at the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships in Lyon, where he achieved an exceptional five gold medals across the 400m, 1500m, 5000m, 10000m, and Marathon events, complemented by one silver. That same year, he won the New York City Marathon.
Most recently, at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, he secured gold in the Marathon T54, two silver medals (1500m, 5000m T54), and a bronze medal (800m T54), alongside additional wins at the 2024 London and Berlin Marathons. Hug continues to set new standards, with projected wins at the 2025 Boston and London Marathons, and a 5000m T54 Gold at the World Para Athletics Championships in 2025.
