Marcel Alejandro Ruiz Suárez was born on October 26, 2000, in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. He moved with his family to Querétaro, Querétaro, at the age of four, where he began playing football. His early exposure to sports, including karate and tennis, was encouraged by his mother, a former gymnast. Ruiz’s football journey started at a local soccer school named River Plate, which was later affiliated with Toluca Premier. With Toluca Premier, he competed in the Danone Nations Cup and the Liga Premier de México. His performances led to his recruitment into the youth system of Querétaro F.C.

Ruiz made his senior debut in Liga MX with Querétaro on July 21, 2018. He scored his first goal for the team on August 22, 2018, becoming the youngest scorer of the season at 17 years old. In July 2020, he transferred to Club Tijuana, where he evolved from an attacking midfielder to a deeper playmaking role in central midfield under coach Pablo Guede. His contributions at Tijuana included 50 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists over two years. His first goal for Tijuana in Liga MX was scored on February 25, 2022, in a 2–0 victory against Atlas.

In June 2022, Ruiz joined Deportivo Toluca, a move that marked a turning point in his career. He was specifically requested by coach Ignacio Ambríz as a key reinforcement for the Apertura 2022 season. Ruiz helped Toluca win the Clausura 2025 championship and the Campeón de Campeones and Campeones Cup in 2025. During the Apertura 2025 season, he served as Toluca’s vice-captain, frequently wearing the armband. On the international stage, Ruiz played for the Mexico U20 and U23 teams, earning a Pan American Bronze Medal in 2019. He made his senior national team debut in March 2023 for the 2022–23 CONCACAF Nations League and was part of the squad that won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2025.
