Marcus Buckland’s journey into sports broadcasting began with a childhood dream of becoming a professional athlete, a dream he soon realized was out of reach. Instead, he found his calling in commentary, naturally narrating games with friends from a young age. After studying at the University of East Anglia, he joined the BBC in 1988, where he became the first sports voice on Radio 5 Live at its launch in 1994. His career took off, leading him to Sky Sports, where he became the face of tennis coverage for over a decade, broadcasting iconic moments alongside legends like Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal.
In 2019, Marcus transitioned to Amazon Prime Video, where he now hosts ATP and WTA tennis events, as well as Premier League football. His extensive experience includes anchoring over 500 live football matches and covering major cricket and rugby events. He’s also a prolific voice-over artist, lending his voice to IMG’s Premier League Highlights Show for more than twenty years. Beyond the screen, Marcus is deeply involved in charity work, supporting organizations like the Lord’s Taverners.
Despite the pressures of live broadcasting, he thrives on the excitement of the unknown, believing that every event is a chance to connect with audiences and athletes alike. When he’s not in front of the camera, he enjoys improving his golf game and cheering on his beloved Spurs with his two sports-mad sons. For Marcus, being a sports presenter is not just a job; it’s a lifelong passion fulfilled.
