Texas point guard Marcus Carr is one of the best players in college basketball right now. Currently playing at an elite level for the Texas Longhorns of the Big 12 Conference, he previously played for the Minnesota Golden Gophers and Pittsburgh Panthers. The Big 12’s Preseason Newcomer of the Year as he entered the 2021-2022 season, the Canadian youngster has also represented his country at the 2015 FIBA Americas Under-16 Championship in Argentina, averaging 2.8 rebounds and 6.2 points per game to help his team finish with a silver medal.
Growing up, the 6-foot-2 Canadian spent numerous hours imitating NBA moves in the driveway along with his older brother Duane Notice, who went on to impress as a point guard at the University of South Carolina. Notice was a key mentor for his younger sibling growing up long before both brothers shone on the NCAA stage. Carr is now known to never shy away from contact, and undoubtedly developed his toughness from years battling his older brother and friends under old-style schoolyard rules along with a strong work ethic.
In recent years Carr has proved he has the ability to become a premier defensive player, who always wants to do anything to help his team win. After improving steadily each season, his turnovers have gone down while his scoring has gone steadily up. Whatever the former All-Big 10 guard decides to do next, he has plenty of solid choices for his future in basketball.
