Margaret Qualley

Sarah Margaret Qualley was born on October 23, 1994, in Kalispell, Montana. The daughter of actress Andie MacDowell, she initially pursued ballet, leaving home at 14 to study dance at the North Carolina School of the Arts and training at the American Ballet Theatre. At 16, Qualley transitioned from dance to modeling, walking for notable brands like Alberta Ferretti, Chanel, and Valentino during New York and Paris Fashion Weeks. Her modeling career included appearing on the covers of publications such as Teen Vogue, Elle, and Vogue, and in campaigns for Kenzo, Ralph Lauren, Kate Spade, and Celine. She later shifted her focus to acting, attending the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art summer program and New York University.

Qualley made her acting debut in Gia Coppola’s 2013 film “Palo Alto.” Her breakthrough came with a supporting role as Jill Garvey in the HBO drama series “The Leftovers,” which she reprised from 2014 to 2017. In 2016, she gained further notice for her dance performance in a Spike Jonze-directed commercial for KENZO World, utilizing her ballet training. The same year, she appeared in the comedy “The Nice Guys.” Qualley’s career continued to expand with roles in films like “Novitiate” (2017) and “Death Note” (2017). A significant milestone was her performance as Ann Reinking in the FX miniseries “Fosse/Verdon” (2019), which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. That same year, she played Pussycat in Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and also took on characters Mama and Lockne in the video game “Death Stranding.”

Her career further advanced in 2021 with the lead role of Alex Russell in the Netflix miniseries “Maid,” for which she received nominations for a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She has since appeared in Yorgos Lanthimos’s films “Poor Things” (2023) and “Kinds of Kindness” (2024), and received a second Golden Globe nomination for her performance in “The Substance” (2024). Upcoming projects include “Blue Moon” (2025), “Honey Don’t!” (2025), and “Happy Gilmore 2” (2025). Qualley also served as an executive producer for “Sanctuary” (2022) and “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox” (2025). She married musician Jack Antonoff on August 19, 2023.
