Maria Bello’s television breakthrough came when she was cast as Mrs. Smith in the spy series Mr. & Mrs. Smith (1996), following early career guest appearances in shows such as The Commish (1995), Nowhere Man (1995), Misery Loves Company (1995), and Due South (1996).
From 2017 to 2021, she held a significant role as Jacqueline ‘Jack’ Sloane in the long-running series NCIS, appearing in 73 episodes. Expanding her professional scope beyond acting, Bello began producing short films in 2010 and later served as a producer for the critically acclaimed feature film The Woman King (2022), for which she also contributed to the story. In 2023, Bello received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination and won a Critics’ Choice Award for her performance in the limited series Beef. Beyond her creative work, Maria Bello is actively involved in philanthropy, having co-founded WE ADVANCE to support Haitian women and serving on the board of Darfur Women Action Group, an NGO dedicated to addressing the conflict in Darfur.
She is also an author, releasing her book Whatever…Love Is Love: Questioning the Labels We Give Ourselves in 2015, exploring themes of modern relationships and identity.
