Marinella Laaksonen

Marinella Laaksonen has established herself as a prominent figure in the world of women’s match racing. Beginning her sailing career in dinghy classes, including the Europe dinghy, she transitioned into match racing and quickly rose through the ranks. Laaksonen has consistently demonstrated strong performance, leading her team, L2 Match Racing Team, to multiple national titles in Finland. Her dedication to the sport is reflected in her status as the highest-ranked female Finnish skipper on the World Sailing ranking, a position she has maintained through consistent competitive results.

Laaksonen made her debut on the WIM Series in 2016, an international circuit for women’s match racing, where she began competing against top-tier international crews. A significant milestone in her career was achieving 4th place in the 2018 WIM Series, showcasing her team’s capability on the global stage. During the Helsinki Women’s Match in June 2018, an event within the WIM Series, Laaksonen and her L2 Match Racing Team finished the first day undefeated, with 5 wins and no losses, highlighting their strong performance and teamwork. The team continued their strong showing into day two, maintaining a leading position with 10 wins and 1 loss. These achievements underscore her consistent performance and leadership in high-stakes competitive environments.

Her career progression reflects a continuous pursuit of excellence, marked by consistent training and team development. Laaksonen’s leadership of the L2 Match Racing Team, which comprises skilled sailors such as Daniela Rönnberg, Camilla Cedercreutz, Henna Holopainen, and Eva-Lotta Hokkonen, has been central to their success.
