Marios Kapotsis was born on September 13, 1991, in Chios, Voreio Aigaio, Greece. Standing at 183 cm and weighing 87 kg, he developed into a water polo player with a significant presence in the sport. His early career saw him affiliating with Olympiacos in Athina, Greece, which set the foundation for his professional journey in water polo. Kapotsis demonstrated consistent performance, leading to his inclusion in the Greek national team.
His career progression included a notable period from 2012 to 2014 where he played for Olympiacos Water Polo Club. During this time, Kapotsis contributed to the team’s success, winning 2 Greek Championships and 2 Greek Cups. He later moved to NC Vouliagmeni. His international career highlights include competing at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, where Greece placed 4th. He also secured a silver medal at the 2018 Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, representing Greece.
A major milestone in Kapotsis’s career occurred at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (held in 2021). As a member of the Greece men’s national water polo team, he played a crucial role in the team earning a silver medal, marking Greece’s first-ever Olympic medal in men’s water polo. Beyond his Olympic achievement, Kapotsis also secured bronze medals in the FINA World League in 2019 (Gwanju) and 2020 (Tbilisi). These accomplishments highlight his sustained excellence and his impact on both club and national team levels.
