Mark Madsen has transitioned from Olympic medalist in wrestling and UFC fighter to a prominent promoter in mixed martial arts.
Retired UFC veteran Mark O. Madsen launched his own MMA organization, Dominance Fighting Championships, with the first card planned for Denmark in September 2024. He aims to bring world-class entertainment to Scandinavia and expand across Europe.
The Danish Mixed Martial Arts Federation secured a sponsorship deal with Denmark's largest MMA promotion, Airtox Dominance FC. This collaboration highlights Airtox as a strategic partner, sponsoring fighters for performance footwear and integrating advanced matchmaking inspired by 'Tinder' into the MMA scene.
Mark Overgaard Madsen, born on September 23, 1984, in Nykøbing Falster, Denmark, began his athletic career in wrestling at the age of six. He competed extensively in Greco-Roman wrestling, representing Denmark in multiple international events. His notable achievements in wrestling include a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in the 75 kg class. Prior to his Olympic success, Madsen earned five silver medals and one bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championships between 2005 and 2015. He also secured multiple gold medals at the Nordic Championships and Danish Championships throughout his wrestling career. Madsen participated in the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics in the 74 kg category, finishing fifth in London 2012.
Madsen later transitioned to mixed martial arts, making his professional debut in 2013. He initially had a hiatus from MMA due to commitments with the Danish Wrestling Federation, but resumed his MMA career after retiring from wrestling. He built an undefeated record in regional circuits and signed with Cage Warriors, where he continued his winning streak. In 2019, Madsen joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), making his debut at UFC on ESPN+ 18. He secured TKO victories and decision wins against opponents such as Danilo Belluardo, Austin Hubbard, Clay Guida, and Vinc Pichel, maintaining an undefeated record of 12-0 before experiencing his first professional losses in 2022 and 2023. He officially retired from MMA competition on January 31, 2024.
Following his retirement from fighting, Mark Madsen announced the launch of his own mixed martial arts promotion, Dominance Fighting Championship (DFC), on June 17, 2024. As the president of DFC, he aims to bring high-level MMA entertainment to Scandinavian countries and expand across Europe. The promotion held its inaugural event on September 21, 2024, at K.B. Hallen in Copenhagen, Denmark. Through DFC, Madsen focuses on developing local talent while also featuring international fighters, leveraging his extensive experience and connections within combat sports.
