Mark Rowley was born on January 29, 1990, in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. His early interest in acting was nurtured at the PACE Youth Theatre, where he developed his aspirations. He later pursued formal training at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD), now known as the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), graduating in 2012. During his studies, Rowley began his professional career, making an appearance in the BBC drama ‘Case Histories’ alongside Jason Isaacs, marking an early milestone in his acting journey.

Rowley’s career progressed through various television roles, notably playing Jamie McAllister in ‘River City’ from 2013 to 2014, and Callum in an episode of ‘Luther’ in 2013, working with talents like Idris Elba. A significant turning point in his career came with his casting as Finan in ‘The Last Kingdom,’ a role he held from 2017 to 2022 across 36 episodes of the popular TV series and reprised in the 2023 film ‘The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die.’ This role garnered him widespread recognition and showcased his capability in sustained character development.

Beyond “The Last Kingdom,” Rowley has expanded his portfolio with diverse projects. He appeared as Prince Alvitirin in Netflix’s ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ in 2022 and took on the role of Jock McDiarmid in the TV series ‘Rogue Heroes’ in 2025. His film credits include playing Macbeth in the 2018 film adaptation and Felix in ‘The Eye’ in 2023. Rowley also contributed his voice to video games such as ‘Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate’ (2015) as Alexander Graham Bell and ‘The DioField Chronicle’ (2022) as William Hende, demonstrating his versatility across different media.
