Wil Wheaton is an American actor, voice-actor and blogger.
He is perhaps best known for his appearance in Star Trek: The Next Generation as Wesley Crusher. Other notable roles include Gordie Lachance in Stand by Me, Bennett Hoenicker in Flubber and Joey Trotta in Toy Soldiers.
Wheaton made his acting debut in A Long Way Home in 1981. His first cinema role came the following year, in the form of Martin Brisby in ‘The Secret of NIMH’. This film was an adaptation of Robert C. O’Brien’s ‘Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH’.
After Wheaton’s successes with the Star Trek series, he decided to move to Kansas. Soon, he was employed by NewTek and he helped develop the Video Toaster 4000. Doing product testing and quality control, he ultimately he used his public profile to serve as a technology evangelist for the product.
Afterward, Wil returned to LA and attended acting school for half a decade. His consequential return to the acting scene saw him achieve great success. By the late 90s and early noughties, Wil appeared in many different indie films, including The Good Things, in which he played a frustrated Kansas toll booth worker. This film was well received by critics and won many awards. In 2002, Wil’s performance in ‘Jane White Is Sick & Twisted’ won him Best Actor award at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival.
