Germany Martin Grothkopp is a German bobsledder and former track and field sprinter who rose to prominence through his Olympic and World Championship victories.

The Friedl sports and physiotherapy team conducted functional training with resistance bands featuring pusher Martin Grothkopp from the Friedrich bobsleigh team.
Martin Grothkopp was born on June 21, 1986, in Dresden, East Germany. Before his career in bobsleigh, Grothkopp competed as a track and field sprinter. In 2009, he participated in the 4 x 400 metres relay team at the World Championships in Athletics. That same year, he won a gold medal in the 400 meters at the German Athletics Championships, demonstrating his athletic versatility and early competitive success.
Grothkopp transitioned to bobsleigh, where he achieved significant success as a pusher in the four-man event. He turned professional in 2013 and quickly became a key member of the German bobsleigh team, specifically with Bobteam Friedrich. A major milestone in his career came at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, where he secured a gold medal in the four-man bobsleigh event. This Olympic victory cemented his status as a top athlete in the sport.
His career also includes multiple World Championship titles. He won gold in the mixed team event at the 2015 IBSF World Championships in Winterberg. Further gold medals followed in the four-man event at the World Championships in Königssee in 2017, Whistler in 2019, and Altenberg in 2020. Grothkopp has also earned medals at the European Championships, including gold in the two-man event in 2015 and 2019, and silver and bronze medals in the four-man event in 2018 and 2015/2019 respectively.
