Marvin D. Mims Jr. was born on March 19, 2002, in Frisco, Texas. He attended Lone Star High School, where he excelled in football. During his junior season, he was named the District 5-5A-I Offensive MVP after achieving 1,158 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. As a senior, Mims set a national record with 2,629 receiving yards on 117 receptions and 32 touchdown catches, earning him the Mr. Texas Football title and first-team USA Today High School All-American honors. He concluded his high school career with a state record of 5,485 receiving yards.

Mims committed to play college football for the Oklahoma Sooners, joining in January 2020. In his freshman year, he recorded 37 receptions for 610 receiving yards and 9 touchdown receptions, setting a school freshman record and earning second-team All-Big 12 and FWAA Freshman All-American recognition. His sophomore season in 2021 saw him lead the Sooners with 705 receiving yards on 32 catches and 5 touchdowns. In his junior year (2022), Mims caught 54 receptions for 1,083 yards, ranking sixth nationally with an average of 20.1 yards per catch, and scored six touchdowns. He also contributed as a return specialist, earning honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference honors for his punt return efforts. Mims declared for the NFL Draft after the 2022 season.

Selected by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Mims quickly made his mark. In his rookie year (2023), he recorded 22 receptions for 377 receiving yards and one touchdown, along with a kick return touchdown. His performance as a returner earned him selections to the 2024 Pro Bowl Games, the 2023 All-Pro Team as a kick returner, and the 2023 PFWA All-Rookie Team. In the 2024 season, he further developed his role, appearing in 17 games and recording 39 catches for 503 yards and six receiving touchdowns, while also leading the league in punt return average with 15.7 yards per return. Mims earned First-team All-Pro as a punt returner and a second Pro Bowl selection as a return specialist.
